Privacy Policy

check.army is a simple bill-splitting tool. This page explains what information we collect and why, in plain language.

What we collect

• Names. The host's name (optional) and each guest's name (required to join a room, so people know who claimed what).
• Email (optional). If you choose to have your itemized receipt emailed to you, we store that address so we can send it and so a "Resend" works later.
• Receipt photos. When you snap or upload a receipt, the image is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to read the line items. We don't save a copy of the photo ourselves — once it's been read, we only keep the resulting text (item names and prices), not the image.
• Check data. The items, claims, tax/tip, and payment handles (Venmo, Cash App, etc.) a host chooses to display for a given check.
• IP address (briefly). Used only to enforce a daily limit on receipt scans and receipt emails, so the service can't be abused. Not used for tracking or advertising.

What we don't collect

• We don't require an account, password, or sign-in of any kind.
• We never see or store your card, bank, or payment details. Paying the host happens entirely inside Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or Zelle — check.army just builds the link.
• We use Google Analytics and a Google Ads conversion cookie to see how people use the site and whether our ads are working — things like which pages get visited and whether an ad led to someone using the app. This never includes your name, email, or receipt contents. We don't use retargeting or sell this data to ad networks.

Who we share data with

Only the services that make check.army work:

• Anthropic — reads receipt photos into line items.
• Supabase — hosts our database.
• ImprovMX — sends the optional itemized receipt email.
• Vercel — hosts the website itself.
• Google Ads & Google Analytics — conversion tracking for our ad campaigns and basic site usage analytics.

We don't sell data to anyone, ever.

How long we keep it

We keep check data for as long as it's useful for settling up. We're working on automatically deleting old checks after a set period; until that's in place, you can email us (below) to have a specific check's data deleted.
